A Report On The Translation Of Out Of Control(Excerpt)

The translation report is based on Out of Control, a popular science book written by Kevin Kelly and published in 1994. The book sets forth the mutual influence pattern of man-made things and natural matters from the aspects of nature, machines and human society, making a bold prediction of the future of the whole society. The existing translation of the book is not very readable; therefore I retranslate Section Four and Section Five in Chapter Five of the book. This report compares the retranslation and the original translation from aspects of lexicon, sentences, discourse and rhetoric, in order to identify the difficult points found in popular science translation and its solutions and to call for more attention to the research in popular science translation.
