The so-called self-responsibility refers to assume their own responsibilities in the development of behavioral choices, behaviors and consequences in compliance with internal needs and emotional experience. Research on self- responsibility has a long history, but these researches pay more attention to theories on self- responsibility. Participants of most studies come from universities not primary school. Self-responsibility is an important part of moral emotion, and will affect pupils’ attitude towards school, school adjustment and academic achievement. Thus, the study of self-responsibility on primary school pupils.has not only theoretical significance, but also has great practical value.Through the literature analysis, combined with semi open questionnaires, interviews, self- responsibilit y levels for pupils were divided into several dimensions such as self- improvement, self- confidence, self-care,and self- respect.The self responsibility questionnaire for pupils was prepared by three sampling surveys. A total of 579 pupils from grade 3,4,5 in three primary schools were surveyed with questionnaires, including the self- responsibility questionnaire for pupils and other measures on attitude towards school, school adjustment and parenting styles The results were as follows:(1) By doing exploring and confirmatory factor analysis, project analysis, and testing internal consistency reliability, content validity, criterion validity, construct validity, The self responsibility questionnaire for pupils showed better theoretical construct,reliability and validity.(2) There were significant differences between the genders.Girls’ self responsibility level either in general or in the self- improvement and self- care, were significantly higher than those for boys.(3) O verall, the level of pupils’ self-responsibility were higher with the grade,The fifth grade boys had higher level of self- responsibility than those girls.(4) The level of pupils’ self-responsibility correlated positively with attitude towards school, academic self-perception, well-being, maternal acceptance warmth, maternal encouragement of achievement maternal encouragement of independent, and community environment, and correlated negatively with maternal punishment and maternal higher control.(5) The community environment, maternal acceptance warmth and encouragement of independent posit ively predicted pupils ’ self-responsibility. Maternal punishment predicted negatively pupils ’ self-responsibility..(6) Pupils of high self- responsibility level had significantly better attitude towards school, academic self-perception, well- being than those pupils of low self-responsibility level.
