This is a translation project report on Chapter II of Change and continuity in Chinese Local History-The Development of Hui-chou Prefecture 800-1800 under the guidance of Nida’s dynamic equivalence theory.Dynamic equivalence theory, as a famous translation theory, has been widely used in advertising, technology, literature translation, etc. But unfortunately, the author finds the articles related to translation methods of the social science monograph under the guidance of this theory are very limited. Therefore, this report mainly deals with some difficult or key points in English-Chinese translation of this social science monograph under the guidance of dynamic equivalence theory, and at the same time, presents some corresponding translation methods and techniques including literal translation, free translation, amplification, simplification etc. based on the appropriate dealing with the important words or expressions and some complicated sentences along with the exact understanding of the original text and writing style. This kind of research could be used to improve the quality of the social science translation and thus to make a contribution to the social science communication at home and abroad. Some of the author’s translation strategies under the guidance of dynamic equivalence theory are expected to be references for the further study of social science translation.
