With the rapid development of tourist industry all around the world, an increasing number of Chinese people travel abroad. The tourism translation flourishes in response to the boom of outward travel. The source text of this task introduces France and its culture. Differences of cultures, languages and other aspects increase the difficulties for the translator. In this report, the way to adopt appropriate translation theories, strategies and methods is discussed.How to combine theories with practice and analyze examples under the guidance of theories is highlighted in this report. The author reads and analyzes the characteristics and functions of the source text, selects the proper translation theories and applies this theoretical knowledge in the translation process. Reiss’ s Text Typology and Newmark’s Text Type theory which indicate the direction and provide a theoretical support for tourist translation strategies are applied in this project.This report contains five chapters. Chapter One provides a brief introduction of the translation project including the introduction of source text, the text’s author and language features of the source text. Chapter Two describes the translation process. Chapter Three discusses the guiding theories and their application. Chapter Four explores translation strategies from two aspects: proper nouns and complex sentences, from the point of Text typology and text type theory so as to realize the functions of the text. In the last chapter, the author shares her own experience and difficulties that she confronted with.
