Environment protection has always been one of the biggest concerns in the whole world, especially in a developing country like China. The advanced ideas and development in some foreign countries have great reference value to China. Therefore, translation has been playing an more important role. The differences in culture and way of thinking has always been inevitable difficulties in translation, which make the analyzing and translating of long and complicated sentences one of the biggest obstacles for all translators, as well as the issue that requires more research and discussion. In this operation, translator finds that the main difficult points are the complicated use of passive voice,attributive clauses and parenthesis. Many methods and skills are applied to deal with them, among which the division is the most useful one, therefore, translator chooses it as the main subject of this thesis,and gives a specific elaboration by using examples from this text. This text is chosen from A Climate of Crisis: America in the Age of Environmentalism, which was published in 2014, the author is Patrick Allitt. Under the guidance of Newmark’s communicative translation theory, from the perspective of differences in language structures between Chinese and English, this thesis focuses on the difficulties in translating long sentences, as well as division methods applied in this operation by using examples, concludes translator’s deficiency and enlightenment, so as to contribute to the development of this subject in translation field.
