The Translation Report On The Big Data Ushers In A Great Era

Scientific article generally belongs to a different writing style and has already caused attention and study since 1970 s. Besides the certain knowledge of translation, translators of scientific writing should grasp its unique stylistic features and adopt corresponding strategies in translation. Based on the Chinese-to-English translation of Big Data Ushers in a Great Era, the author analyzes the stylistic features of Chinese scientific texts in this thesis. Meanwhile, combined with the typical cases, the strategies of C-E scientific translation under the guidance of Functional Equivalence theory are discussed from the perspective of words and sentences. This report consists of five parts, including task description, task process, theoretical background, translation case study and conclusion. Task description gives a general introduction to the translation task. Task process mainly includes three parts: preparation before translation, translation and proofreading stages. Preparation covers the analysis of source text and target text, reading parallel texts and instrument preparation. Translation stage introduces the translation schedule of this project. Proofreading is the final stage in which the author briefly discusses the proofreading work of this translation task. In chapter three, theoretical guidance mainly introduces the translation theories used in this translation project. Case analysis is the focus of this paper in which the author presents dozens of typical examples to discuss and explore Sci-Tech translation strategies. Last part briefly summarizes the author’s inspiration in this translation activity---a qualified translator should possess the following three qualities: first, to accurately understand the stylistic features of original texts; secondly, to have a good command of the characteristics of target language and make the translation version more idiomatic in the target language; third, to master solid professional knowledge.
