Agriculture has exerted a far-reaching influence on people's life. The insect pest management in agricultural industry has always been and will continue to be one of the important parts in agricultural production.Insect Pest Management: Techniques for Environmental Protection,a book composed by Jack E.Rechcigl and Nancy A.Rechcigl, expounds such issues as ecological control of insects, physical control of insects, cultural practices, etc.,which has offered more insight into “insect pest management”.And in order to help readers in our country know about foreign agricultural knowledge and environmental protection technology on pest management, the translator sets out to translate part of this book. The source text selected as the translation material for this report is Chapter Three, excerpted from Insect Pest Management: Techniques for Environmental Protection,a book classified as the scientific text, which for the need of preciseness and logicality contains lots of complex attributive structures.Among those different kinds of attributive structures, the post-posed attributive structures are probably the most diverse ones, which increases the difficulty of the translation. Therefore, this text mainly discusses translation strategies for post-posed attributive structures guided by the Functional Equivalence Theory. This report is divided into four chapters: Chapter One is the introduction to translation project and Chapter Two is a brief introduction to Functional Equivalence Theory and post-posed attributives. In Chapter Three, the translator does not classify the post-posed attributives from the perspective of syntax(adjective phrases as attributives, prepositional phrases as attributives, participle constructions and attributive clauses)or semantics(the function of limitation and description, the function of supplement and illustration and post-posed attributives with the function of adverbial modifiers)as most researchers do.Instead,in terms of the relationship between the center word and the post-posed attributive structures, the translator, according to previous study, divides those post-posed attributives into four types: the simple post-posed attributive, the parallel post-posed attributive, the reverseconnective post-posed attributive and the parallel reverse connective post-posed attributive. Moreover, the translator summarizes the problems found in the course of translation and then proposes translation strategies for those post-posed attributive structures accordingly. In Chapter Four, the translator draws a conclusion for this translation report and hopes to provide inspiration for the translation of post-posed attributives.
