Research On Shopping Mall Wayfinding Design

The spacial size of Shopping Mall compared with the traditional department stores, is much more bigger. The increased space makes it easier for the consumers to get lost. Wayfinding are the indispensable infrastructure in shopping malls, whether its design is reasonable, the transmission of information is effective directly affects the degree of the problem that people get lost in large space. Many shopping MALLs still have the same problem after bringing in the sign systems, therefore, here we discuss the practical value of sign systems.Influenced by the specific mountainous environment in Chongqing, SUNMOON Light has unique architectural structure, where there is large interior space, and many regional divisions, complex road, all these characteristics enable consumers to get lost, while the existing system does not have a good solution to this problem, after analyzing the existing sign systems, we found that the number of guide signage is large while the amount of available information to transfer is little, the location is unreasonable, and the guide signage does not have clear information.The wayfinding work like guiding persons in the Shopping Malls, so if they can not play its indicating function then it is useless. In this article, we analyze the method and discipline of the wayfinding and use it as a reference, improve the wayfinding n SunMoon Light, during the process we summed up:"general-divide-divide" wayfinding information hierarchy layout mode; how to enhance the visual appeal of the outer appearance of sign systems; the calculation method of wayfinding and environment contrast factor.
