The criterion of mate selection was a hot topic in the field of evolutionary psychology. There were many criteria for choosing spouses for both sexes, which could be roughly summarized into three dimensions:resources, appearance and character. As an adaptive product of the evolutionary process, human beings would make trade-offs between different environmental factors and individual factors to adjust the criteria for mate selection.Among which the gender ratio and self-perceived mate value(refers to the individual's perception of their attractiveness as a partner)were the important environmental factors and individual factors that affected the survival and reproduction of the individual.Previous studies had focused on the relationship between the two factors and mate selection criteria, but such studies had been divided on the relationship between gender ratio,self-perceived mate value and gender mate selection criteria. In addition, the factors that affected the criteria of mate selection were various and different, when the gender ratio and self-perceived mate value were taken into account simultaneously, what dynamic changes would occur in the criteria for mate selection of both sexes?Based on this, this study mainly discussed the three aspects:1.What was the impact of gender ratio on mate selection criteria for both sexes?2.What was the influence of self-perceived mate value on the criteria of mate selection for both sexes?3.Was there an interactive effect between the gender ratio and self-perceived mate value on the criteria of mate selection? This study was divided into three parts:the first study used a questionnaire method,305 unmarried young people as subjects. The gender ratio environment of the individual was used as the predictive variable, the gender as the grouping variable, and the mate selection criteria(including three dimensions:resources, appearance and character)as the outcome variables,to investigate the influence of the gender ratio environment of the individual on the criteria of mate selection. In the second study,305 unmarried young people were selected as subjects by questionnaire method. The individual's self-perceived mate value was used as the predictive variable, gender as the grouping variable, and the criteria of spouse-selection(resources,appearance and character)as the result variables,to investigate the relationship between the individual's self-perceived mate value and the criteria of mate selection. In the third study,373 unmarried young people were selected as subjects by the experimental method. The subjects were designed with 3(gender ratio:more males and fewer females, more females and fewer males, control group)x 2(self-perceived mate value:high self-perceived mate value, low self-perceived mate value)x 2(gender:male,female).The dependent variables were mate selection criteria(resources, appearance, character),by priming the perception of different gender ratio conditions, the dynamic changes of gender selection criteria were investigated when the conditions of gender ratio and the self-perceived mate value be worked together. The results showed that:(1)The gender ratio environment of the individual itself could significantly predict the male criteria in terms of resources and character, but had no significant predictive effect on the female mate selection criteria.(2)The individual's self-perceived mate value could significantly predict the female mate selection criteria in terms of resources, appearance and character, but had no significant predictive effect on the male mate selection criteria.(3)The interaction effect of different gender ratio priming conditions and self-perceived mate value on male mate selection criteria-appearance was marginal significant. The specific performance was that under the condition of more males and fewer females, the requirement of appearance for male with high self-perceived mate value was significantly higher than that of male with low self-perceived mate value;under the condition of more females and fewer males, the effect of self-perceived mate value on appearance was not significant.(4)The interaction effect of different gender ratio priming conditions and self-perceived mate value on female mate selection criteria-resources was significant. The specific performance was that under the condition of more females and fewer males, female with low self-perceived mate value had significantly higher requirements for appearance than female with high self-perceived mate value;under the condition of more males and fewer females, the effect of female's self-perceived mate value on resources was not significant. The main conclusions were as follows:(1)There were significant differences in the influence of gender ratio on the criteria of mate selection between the two sexes. The gender ratio could significantly predict the male mate selection criteria, but could not significantly predict the female mate selection criteria.(2)There were significant differences in the influence of self-perceived mate value on the criteria of mate selection between the two sexes. The self-perceived mate value could significantly predict the criteria of female mate selection, but could not significantly predict the criteria of male mate selection.(3)For both sexes, the gender ratio played a regulatory role in the relationship between the self-perceived mate value and the criteria of mate selection. When the number was not dominant(i.e.,males were in the environment of more males and fewer females, females were in the environment of more females and fewer males),the self-perceived mate value of both sexes could become a factor affecting the standard of mate selection.
