SPD Bank Personal Loan Guaranty Contract Translation Report

This thesis was composed on the basis of the SPD Personal Loan Guaranty Contract, which was translated during the author’s internship in the Translation Department of Shanghai Easy-Visa Investment Consultancy Company. In the process of translation, the author realized that as a kind of legal texts loan contract fully reflected the language characteristics, and among them accuracy was the most important one. Therefore, the translator should be subject to the accuracy of language and information transmission in the process of translation. The author learned that the accuracy of the translation embodied four aspects which were word, words, sentence and the dimensions of the article, while the word and sentence were the most important two aspects among them. From the angle of words and sentences the author put forward some translation techniques from the bottom-up, strove to achieve the purpose of accuracy from the microscopic point of view to provide some experience for reference for contract translation practitioners.In Chapter 1, the source and content of this translation project were roughly introduced, including the translation requirements claimed by the internship company as well. In Chapter 2, the importance of contract translation was defined and classified; also a literature review was given to summarize the status quo of contract translation in China. In Chapter 3, for a practical point of view, the thesis analyzed the language features of legal contract from the angle of words and sentences and provided some strategies for contract translation to express the accuracy.Finally, the author summarized the whole text, and pointed out some inadequacies and recommendations for further research.
