A Report On The Chinese Translation Of The Economist

The materials applied in this English-Chinese translation practice report are taken from The Economist website from which 21 pieces(2017.08-2018.11)are selected as case studies.Topics involved are mainly about economics,politics and so on.Under the guidance of Nida's functional equivalence theory,this report studies the methods of news translation.Firstly,the translation task is summarized.Secondly,the translator expounds the main points of functional equivalence theory and the principles guiding news translation.Then,the author analyses the difficulties and solutions in the process of translating the political and economic news of The Economist from three levels:vocabulary,sentence and text.Finally,the author summarizes the translation practice.Through this translation practice and the writing of the report,the author concludes that Nida's functional equivalence theory can effectively guide the practice of news translation.Its significance lies in the improving the translation quality of news texts both theoretically and practically.The author hopes that this translation practice report can help Chinese readers better understand and appreciate English newspapers and contribute a humble effort to the development of news translation.
