A Report On The Translation Of My Life As Emperor

The report is based on the translation practice of the second chapter of My Life as Emperor, written by Su Tong, a famous contemporary novelist in China. From the perspective of Functional Equivalence Theory, this translation report discusses how to reproduce the cultural meaning of the source text in the process of Chinese-English translation.The report consists of five chapters. Chapter One is introduction. In this part, the translator introduces the task description, relevant information of the author and the main content and style of the source text. Chapter Two describes the translation process, including pre-translation, during-translation and proofreading. Chapter Three introduces briefly the Functional Equivalence Theory and its practice method. Chapter Four is case analysis. In this part, the translator analyzes some typical cases in terms of lexicology, syntax and style to illustrate how she accomplishes her translation task under the guidance of Functional Equivalence Theory. Chapter Five is conclusion in which the translator summarizes her gains and shortcomings from this translation practice.
