Reserch On Fenghuang Hmong Agricultural Vocabulary

Agricultural vocabulary is an important part of the Hmong Vocabulary System. The interpretation, induction and analysis of these agricultural vocabularies are significant for broadening the field of Hmong vocabulary, understanding its characteristics, and constructing Hmong vocabulary study systems. Based on the agricultural entry in the "Chinese Dialect Vocabulary Dictionary", which provided by the Dialect Research Institute of Chinese Academy of Social Sciences, this research selects 164 words from the Fenghuang Hmongagricultural vocabulary. These words are classified as three categories - farming, farm tools and farm product. The following characteristics can be drawn from the study:(1) The word meanings of Fenghuang Hmong agricultural vocabulary are unitary.(2) The word meanings of Fenghuang Hmong agricultural vocabulary with the prominent national characteristics.(3) Most of Fenghuang Hmong agricultural vocabulary are two-syllabic.The reason of this in two side:one is the development on language itself;the other is the Hmong pursuit a balance in there life。 (4)Most of Fenghuang Hmong agricultural vocabulary are Compound Words.compound word of modified was he most in number,and the form of head-morpheme +modifier-morphemes is a main Characteristic in Hmong agricultural vocabulary.(5)There are only Prefix in Fenghuang Hmong agricultural vocabulary. And Prefix "p 55" had a strong word-building ability and a outstanding Characteristic。 (6)There are much Chinese Borrowings in Fenghuang Hmong agricultural vocabulary .these are with various forms and outstanding Characteristics.the reason of development of Chinese Borrowings are the Social Development,National integration and the development on language itself.(7)There are two main word creation method in Hmong of Fenghuang agricultural vocabulary:one is The description of word creation method and the other is the metaphor of word creation method.these Difference in thinking ways,cognitive level and cultural tradition.In a word, Hmong agricultural vocabulary reflects not only the vocabulary characteristics of Hmong, but concerned in Agricultural production and life of Hmong.
