Based on the functional linguistics as the theoretical basis, this article chose communication as the main purpose of teaching Chinese to analyze and study the greeting languages in Chinese. This paper divided greeting into three different types: greeting form, question form, exclamation form and selected the most typical expressions in every type to analyze. From the aspects of syntax, semantic and pragmatic, we detailed analyzed the characteristics and difference between those expressions. At the same time, this paper also collected foreign students’ errors in the learning and using of three kinds of greeting of bias analysis summarized, pointed out the causes of errors and gave detailed lesson plan after each research and hope to reduce students’ errors when using greeting and provided some guidance and inspiration in teaching Chinese to speakers of other language.
