A Report On The Translation Of A Companionship To Digital Literary Studies (Excerpt)

With the development of modern science and technology and the integration of the global economy as well, the English of science and technology(EST) arouses wide attention from academic and linguistic fields. EST enjoys specialty in content, application fields and textual function, which also differs from other literary style in usage habits, vocabulary and grammar.The thesis focuses on the translation of Chapter 8 and 12 of A Companionship to Digital Literary Studies written by Ray Siemens and Susan Schreibman, including the analysis on nominalization, long and complicated sentences, and passive sentences. The significance of analyzing the translating method of nominalization, long, complicated and passive sentences of EST lies in exploring a specific and effective method to reduce the difficulty of reading EST and to promote the development of science and technology. This thesis includes content of five parts:firstly, the introduction; secondly, the thesis gives a brief introduction to the text, including the introduction to the background and stylistic features of EST; thirdly, it makes emphasis on elaborating the translation process; fourthly, it puts forward the case studies, of which includes the characteristics and translating method of nominalization, long complicated sentences and passive sentences; finally, the thesis indicates the summary and reflection in translation practice. The thesis mainly emphasizes translating skills to solve some questions, which could make great contribution to translating EST.
