The thesis is to study teaching objectives and content of curriculums for the sport dance major in China’s secondary vocational schools. To conduct the above research, the author studied Guidelines on Management of Major Establishment in Secondary Vocational School made by Education Committee of China, learned from researches in the this area after reading relevant books and documents on curriculum building, and chose Beijing Cultural Arts Vocational School as a case study where a survey on curriculum setting for sport dance major was made. The thesis gets the following conclusions:First, Today the course setting of sports dancing major in secondary vocational schools has no uniformed requirement and standard, with each school designing courses for their own purposes, resulting in the lack of scientificness of course setting.Second, there is no big difference between secondary vocational schools in the setting of sport dance curriculums. All such schools have established compulsory and optional curriculums for the major of sport dance in line with Guidelines made by Education Committee of China. However, the design of such curriculums is not scientific. The survey indicts that academic hours of compulsory curriculums account for90%of the total, with optional curriculums10%.Third, due to the fact that curriculums designed for the major have much room for improvement, this thesis, based on results of surveys and interviews with students and teachers of this major, puts forward some suggestions on the setting of such curriculums. It suggests that physical strength training course be added as one of compulsory curriculums for the major. Optional curriculums is suggested to be categorized into theory courses (the course of analysis of techniques applied by excellent participants and real contests), technique courses(modern dancing and modulated contest course), complimentary courses(video singing and pace training course, make-up course). What is more, it is suggested that extra-class activities are added, including small course, course of out-door exercises. Special major courses are suggested to remain unchanged.Fourth, Interviewing with experts and teachers of sport dancing shows that, physical strength training is critical to improving major competence. Therefore, physical strength training should be included as a course for sport dancing major at secondary vocational schools, using scientific ideas and equipment as a way of monitoring physical strenght of trainees. In addition, there are not enough teachers for courses concerning physical strength for sport dancing students and courses are not systemic. Finally, This thesis using Beijing Cultural Arts Vocational College as a case study, analysises the allocation of academic scores for sport dancing major, and finds that scores for basic ballet training account the most, which is determined by features of sport dancing. It is advised that course hours for this course be reduced, while course hours for program course, physical strength couses and special skills course increased.
