This interpretation report was concerned with the solution to the problem of information loss involved in E-C simultaneous interpretation of Obama State of the Union2014Address. The address was made by Mr. Obama, President of the United States at Capitol Hill on the night of Jan.28th. This report took the audio of the address from the Internet as a material for SI interpretation. This report classified the problem of information loss, along the line of different causes, into two forms:information loss triggered by information overload, and information loss triggered by fast speaking. This report, under the guidance of Vermeer’s Skopos Theory, valued the "skopos " of the translated text and at the same time took into consideration both coherence and fidelity. To deal with the problem of information loss in simultaneous interpretation, this report proposed two interpretation methods, that is, omission and merge, and then analyzed each methods with specific examples. This report inspires me to put weight on the "skopos" of a certain address or speech during SI, to deal with information loss with flexibility when the problem occurs. And in this way, we could better make up for the loss incurred to avoid incoherence and inconsistency in the interpretation, and thus better the performance of simultaneous interpretation.
