Under the current context, the communication between China and the rest of the world is becoming increasingly closer. As the result, more international meetings(or forums) will be held in China. And these meetings(forums) are normally started with speeches made by Chinese officials. Of course, there will be interpreters to interpret these speeches simultaneously into English. Unfortunately, these speeches, are very lengthy and over-elaborated. As a result, interpreters have to omit some information actively or passively. However, are such omissions acceptable? This is the question the thesis is going to answer. With the help of skopos theory, the thesis will study omissions in SI interpretation of a keynote speech(by comparing two versions of interpretation). After the study, this paper comes up with the conclusion that omission is an acceptable interpretation strategy. Under certain situations, it is even the best. However, that does not mean every omission is acceptable. To use omission, an interpreter must fully understand the gravity of the source information and has adequate skills to organize his expression.
