As the world economy integrates with each other more than ever before, China opens to the outside world positively and comprehensively. More and more Chinese enterprises continuously “go out” to global and actively participate in international cooperation and competition for constructing or sub-contracting international construction projects. However, in most cases, construction documents, especially for overseas projects, are often written in world language--English, bringing many difficulties to Chinese enterprises. To better perform construction contracts, improve their own professional qualities and promote the brand competitiveness, contractor need to pay due attention to construction documents of the contractor part, which plays a very important role. In this case construction documents are attracting wilder attention of more and more scholars and translators. But a few domestic scholars study international engineering documents translation from the perspective of functional equivalence. International engineering documents possess several characteristics, for example specialty, flexibility, and universality. Translation of international engineering documents strives to meet the demands of clearness, rigor, and solemnity. All these clearly demonstrate in the aspects of sentence pattern, diction, and modifier. This translation report is based on the New Acid Tank Installation Plan of Philippine Associating Smelting and Refining Company. Through the example and analysis of ST and TT, the author primarily probes into commonly-used translation strategies and techniques in international engineering documents under the guidance of Eugene A Nida's functional equivalence theory to enable more people understand the construction documents' translation and provide reference for this field. It is necessary for translator to do series of changes in order to more completely and accurately express the purpose of OT during translation, and adopts proper translation methods, for instance, conversion(conversion of voice), split translation, combined translation, literal translation, free translation and other translation methods, to be conform to Chinese habits and achieve equivalence in lexical, syntactical, textual, stylistic and communicative aspects. All these are for one objective: to better proceed with the project.Embarking from the perspective of functional equivalence, this article discusses the application of functional equivalence and the gained experience in the international engineering project documents through the report on the C-E Translation of the New Acid Tank Installation Plan of the Philippines Associating Smelting and Refining Company.
