The Study On Screen Culture Of Gesar

Created by the whole Tibetan People, Gesar is a great heroic epic which spreads into nationalities of Mongolia, Pumi, Tu, Yugu, Naxi, Lisu and Bai, etc. During its hundreds or even thousands years spreading, Gesar blends itself with the social life and traditional culture of local people, exerting significant influences on their history and culture, which has helped them producing different versions of Gesar of their own with their own ethnic characters. Gesar is a splendid literature work with high academic value, which acts as a profound encyclopedia and helps people to understand and research the military, wars, morality, religion, customs, social conditions, economic life, history and communication as well as literature and art of Tibetan people. It is a great achievement Chinese people contribute to the civilization of mankind and is regarded as the common wealth of all human beings. Though partially and in a small scale, Gesar has been recomposed in forms of Tibetan drama, opera and TV plays by Chinese people. This paper makes an explorative analysis on the potential movie value from the following aspects:features of movie culture and the possibilities of adapting Gesar into movie version, with a conclusion that the epic Gesar is surely to have a broad prospect in its potential movie values.
