A Project Report On The Interpreting For The Business Development Of An Australian Property Management Company

From 11^thto 20^thof May in 2019,the reporter served as an interpreter for the chief executive of Binks and Associates,an Australian property management company,in the Victoria Jiangsu Business Placement program,held by Jiangsu Federation of Industry and Commerce.During the program,the reporter served as the interpreter for the communication between the two sides and assisted in business communication.She received positive feedback from the clients and also gained valuable practical experience in interpretation.The reporter encountered mainly three problems in the interpreting project.The first problem was with the processing of source language due to her poor ability to decode the main point.The second problem was her unfamiliarity with background industry knowledge owing to inadequate preparation before interpreting service,particularly the preparation of the glossary and the client needs.The third problem was her poor performance as a communicator in the process of interpretation.In response to the above three issues,the reporter carefully reviewed the previous research and reflected upon her experience,and then proposed corresponding solutions.First,the reporter should improve her logic analysis upon receiving the source language input,and check with speakers when confusion occurs.Second,the reporter should enrich her industry knowledge reserve in advance and get familiar with technical terms and the client needs.Third,the reporter should properly assume the role of the interpreter as a communicator.The present report offers a large number of texts based on real-situation interpreting scenarios,and the reporter's reflections upon them.These results will help future interpreters with actual interpreting work as well as researchers.
