Studies On Translator’s Subjectivity In The Translation Of Gone With The Wind

Human has engaged in translation for a long time, translation is like a bridge in cultural exchangeof people who are from different races and different regions. With the progress and development ofhuman society, the role of translation in cultural exchange has become increasingly prominent.Therefore, it is urgent for us to do some researches on hot issues of translation. Although translator isthe subject of translation, the dominant position of the translator has not been given due attention sincethe birth of translation. With the rise of cultural turn, the dominant position of the translator has beenimproved greatly. Translation scholars are released from linguistics and put forward a lot of newresearch methods and theories. They think translation is not more than the replacement of languageand is influenced by internal and external factors.Gone with the Wind is a historical novel written by Margaret Mitchell, a famous American writer.Culture is the historical sediment. Literary works has a close relation with one nation·s culture, it canreflect people·s psychological feature, ideology and thought mode and enlighten us in the translation.Fu Donghua·s version has a high popularity among Chinese readers since published in1940and a widerange of mass base; therefore it deserves the academic research.This thesis takes Fu Donghua·s version of Gone with the Wind and the English original as a casestudy. This paper is divided into five chapters. Chapter one makes a brief introduction on theresearch methods, research purpose and research significance. Chapter two introduces the English andChinese versions of Gone with the wind and the profiles of its author. Chapter three elaborates thetranslator·s subjectivity and the present papers on translator·s subjectivity. Chapter four citesnumerous examples analyzing the specific factors affecting translator·s subjectivity. Chapter fivedraws the conclusion based on the above study.
