The research of Simultaneous Interpreting has attracted a lot of great attentionin academic field in recent years. Among the Simultaneous Interpreting practicereports, the authors mainly focus on TV programs and lectures, but few areconcerning about the news press speech. So the author did a simulated SI(Simultaneous Interpretation) practice of the news press speech of AmericanPresident Obama on the topic of the U.S. economics and foreign policies. Then, theauthor analyzed the task record, identified the problems and the countermeasures.Through the analysis, the author found that misunderstanding, information loss, slipof tongue and some other problems are the main problems in the SI process. Butthrough studying and practicing the interpreting theories and skills, some of theproblems can be avoided. This report firstly describes of such components of the task as the speaker, background, nature and task requirements after giving a brief introduction of thetask and the contents of the report. Secondly, the author introduces the interpretingprocess. In the process of preparation before the task, the author looked up therelevant information and made a glossary. In order to make the task real, it was heldin the interpreting lab of Foreign Language College in Jilin University with theprofessional equipments. At the same time, the author invited several of herclassmates as the audience. After the task, the author made a self-assessment. Thenthe author invited7audiences to give the feedback by filling the questionnaires.Thirdly, the author analyzes the problems from two aspects: linguistic aspect andnon-linguistic aspect. After the case study, the author proposes somecountermeasures to help cope with the problems. In the SI process, the interpretercan use the methods of addition and omission to make the rendering conform to thelinguistic habits of Chinese. And the interpreter can use the abdominal breath andproper pauses to keep the translation in a proper rhythm. Through the task analysis, the author finds the listening comprehension of the interpreter needs to be improved.Because good listening can help the interpreter catch the information quickly andaccurate. In contrast, weak listening would cause the information loss which leads tothe low quality of the interpretation. Meanwhile, the knowledge reserve and thevocabulary which need to be accumulated during the daily study also influence theinterpretationFinally, the good psychological diathesis which is also one of the key factorsthat influence the SI quality can make the interpreter calm down and react quickly.
