The material for this simulated consecutive interpreting(hereinafter, CI for short) comes from a Chinese speech made by Huang Qunhui at Jilin University on July 1st, 2015. As the director of the Institute of Industrial Economy, Chinese Academy of Social Sciences, his main direction of studying is State-owned enterprise reform. On July 1st, 2015, invited by Jilin University, Huang Qunhui made a speech entitled Progress and Tasks of State-owned Enterprise in New Period. 2015 is the crucial year of state-owned enterprise reform(hereinafter SOE for short) and once for a time SOE reform became the hot issue. By choosing this speech as the research object for the simulated practice, the author hopes to improve her own ability in interpreting practice and acquire knowledge related to SOE reform. More importantly, through this simulated CI, the author aims to find problems in Chinese to English CI, and to explore some effective countermeasures, hoping to offer some experience and reference for theoretical research and practice in Chinese to English consecutive interpreting.The report consists of four chapters in addition to a brief introduction and a conclusion: task description, task implementation, source text analysis and problems and countermeasures respectively. The first chapter, task description, gives the general introduction of the simulated practice including the background information of the speaker as well as the basic requirement for the interpreter. Chapter two, task implementation, includes before-interpreting preparation and during-interpreting process. Before-interpreting preparation covers many aspects such as thematic background information preparation, terminology formulation and site & equipment preparation. Chapter three analyzes the source text in terms of stylistic feature, lexical features and sentence features. Chapter four, as the main part of this report, focusing on the following three problems: misinterpreting, loss of information and longer interpreting time than speech time. Then the author put forward countermeasures such as simplification, reformulation, fuzzy expression, paraphrasing and self-correction hoping to improve her future interpreting study as well as for others.
