The Study About Xue Xue’s Poems And Poetics

As a well known doctor in the Qing Dynasty in Suzhou, Xue Xue with the significantachievements in aspects of the treatment of seasonal febrile disease and many effectivemeasures of medicine was on par with Ye Gui who was the famous doctor in the field ofmedicine. There are so much research articles on his medical achievements，but theachievements of literature were ignored for a long time. In recent years, his poems andpoetic theories got lots of attention in the academic field. But it still needs further researchaccording to the present research situation.This paper attempts to carry out a comprehensivestudy of the life story of him and his poemsFirst of all, this paper on the basis of the previous research results, research and sort outthe life of Xue Xue,to solve the " Imperial Examination” and other controversial issues;secondly, redefines the ideological content of his poems and art features, makes up thedeficiency of previous on the bridle travel service on poems, to point out the lack of concernfor the people of his thought; thirdly, through the comparison with Poetics of naturaldisposition, pointed out their similar " mind ", and the truth of" diversity and personalitytheory "," talent and poetry theory "and other aspects of the resonance, to enrich theshortcomings of his poems and poetics research, the pioneer role in the Qing Dynasty.This paper consists of the introduction, text (about four chapters) conclusion.The introduction includes the basis and the significance of the selection of this subject.Firstly, the former researches about Xue Xue of Aoki Masako and Jiang Yin have shownthat his poetic theory was important in the period of Qing poetry extremely. Secondly,combine the poems and poetic theories of Xue Xue to illustrate that it still needs furtherresearch on Xue Xue. The present situation of this subject to be divided two parts. Forpoetry, summarizes the research of the current situation and some innovations.The first chapter outlines the background of age and personal life of Xue Xue includedeconomy, atmosphere of Suzhou. In the aspects of biography, judging by the poems of XueXue to survey his life-history it including school days, general’s office travels and thereclusive life.The second chapter discusses the content of Xue Xue’s poems mainly. Firstly, from thechanges of human emotion, his poems were divided into pessimism and optimism toapproach his psychological characteristics two categories. Secondly，from the perspectiveof his general office travels, analyzing the connection between him with his friends in his poetry of work. Thirdly, from the description of this poems on landscape and garden to diginto his seclusion idea and generalizes and from the necessity and contingency perspectiveto explain the strong and actual idea. Fourthly, through the "boat" images to classify thedifferent meanings of his tour poems such as loneliness and wandering and distress. Finally,to prove that Xue Xue’s poems are lack of much social idea from the angle of humanbehavior motivation.The third chapter mainly discusses the art characteristics of Xue Xue’s poems asmaterial selection, imagery and style. First of all, on the basis of the second chaptersummarize his poems were ordinary and real. Secondly, the analysis of the size movementand color combination of images in poems, the images in his poems were stretched intodelicacy, spirituality, desolate. Thirdly, according to the diversification of language in hispoems, the style was summarized as euphemistic and subtle, plain and simple, beautiful andelegant, heroic and fantastic. Deserve to be mentioned this chapter takes into account XueXue’s poems and Xing Ling poetry exploring the similar characteristics of spirit.The fourth chapter mainly discusses the contents and significance of Xue Xue’s poemswith the origin of poetry, poets, poet’s innovation and readers’ appreciation spirit. By meansof Ye Xie ‘s The Origin of Poetry to analyze that Xue Xue was not against Ye Xie on thetopic of “the origin of poetry” but he proposed “moral quality” and “innateness”. Xue Xue’sideas of “poetry” were divided into four parts: inspiration, conception, artificial, final. Itshows that some points of him were more innovative than Ye Xie. Finally, comparing XueXue’s opinion with Yuan Mei including mind and feelings; talent and poetry; diversity andpersonal; it analyzes that Xue Xue has play a part role on the process about Yuan Mei’spoetics and to explore the specific manifestation in Xue Xue’s poesies.The conclusion section summarizes the main research methods and results in this paper,and pointed out that the Poetics of natural disposition in the process of development, inaddition to the main character, positive role of other poets still needs to explore the academiccircles.
