Dahuting Tombs of Han Dynasty, located in Xinmi, Henan province, are two largetombs built in the late Eastern Han Dynasty, during which people attached greatimportance in decorating tombs with fascinating ornamentals and luxury grave artifacts.In addition, as the main grave-decorating method at that time, frescoes are wildlyworshiped. Dahuting Tombs of Han Dynasty, decorated with frescoes, is a typicalrepresentation of legacies in that period, which contains high art value for us to study.This thesis is elaborated around the decoration language of frescoes in the DahutingTombs of Han Dynasty with three main chapters. Before the study is presented, theintroduction part briefly explains the historical background and general information ofDahuting Tombs and discusses overseas and domestic research status as well as thepurpose, meaning and method of the research. The first chapter mainly discusses theorigins of decorative frescoes in the Dahuting Tombs from two aspects—under theinfluence of the filial concept in Eastern Han Dynasty, that is to hold a elaborate funeraland the influence of religious. Both influences have laid the foundation of valuing gravedecorations and paved the way for the spectacular frescoes inside the DahutingTombs.The second chapter introduces the themes of the frescoes—reality as well assuperstition and immortality. The third chapter explores the artistic features of thefrescoes in Dahuting Tombs in details, including decoration formative analysis,decoration layout, decoration colors used and the aesthetic significance of the decoration.
