A Project Report On The Translation Of Regulations Of Jiangsu Province On Prevention And Control Of Motor Vehicle Exhaust Pollution

With the acceleration of globalization and the expansion and deepening of foreign exchanges, the role of legal exchange is becoming increasingly prominent. However, the legal exchange between countries can’t be carried without legal translation. To make the world know more about China’s laws and regulations, it’s important for us to translate Chinese legal documents into other languages.Local legislative texts are the important components of socialist legal system with Chinese characteristics. They play an active role in implementing constitution, laws and administrative regulations in the administrative region, maintaining uniformity of legal system, promoting reform and opening-up and socialist modernization. Therefore, the translation of local legislative texts is also very important.The author selects the Chinese version of Regulations of Jiangsu Province on Prevention and Control of Motor Vehicle Exhaust Pollution as the original text for translation and study. This project report is completed through summarizing the whole translation process and studying the Law of the People’s Republic of China on the Prevention and Control of Atmospheric Pollution. Since the author’s supervisor undertakes the translation task of regulations and rules of Jiangsu Province, the author then has the honor to take part in the trial translation of Regulations of Jiangsu Province on Prevention and Control of Motor Vehicle Exhaust Pollution.Based on the case examples, this project report introduces the linguistic features of legislative texts and the translation process. The author also lists some major issues and difficulties of this translation project and analyzes the causes behind these difficulties. Finally, on the basis of "functional equivalence" theory, the author summarizes some legal translation principles, hoping to provide some guidance and help for future legislative translation work.
