A Project Report On The C-E Translation Of Regulations Of Jiangsu Province On Surveying And Mapping Geographic Information

With the further development of the Belt and Road Initiative,the translation of local rules and regulations and the development of geographic information technology are becoming increasingly important.This project report takes the translation practice of the Regulations of Jiangsu Province on Surveying and Mapping Geographic Information as an example,analyzes the characteristics of legal texts relating to technology from the aspects of vocabulary and syntax,illustrates the difficulties in the interdisciplinary translation practice and discusses effective solutions,so as to inspire other legal translators to solve similar problems.In line with the functional equivalence theory and under the guidance of the principles of rigorousness,accuracy,and equivalence of legal translation,this report proposes the following solutions to the translation difficulties.Technical and legal terms can be translated with reference to the terminology base and parallel texts.Category words can be omitted.Culture-loaded expressions can be translated with reference to official documents.Fuzzy words can be translated by literal translation and amplification.Non-subject sentences can be translated by applying nominalized structures or transforming into passive voices.Attributive clauses or conditional adverbial clauses can be adopted to translate sentences with the “de(?)” structure.Long sentences can be translated by rearranging and applying qualifications or referring to ritualized structures.By summarizing relevant translation methods,this project report aims to provide reference for improving the translation quality of local rules and regulations,advancing its standardization,as well as promoting international cooperation in science and technology,so as to make a small contribution to the construction of the national legal system and enhancing China's international right of speech.
