A Project Report On The English Translation Of Regulations Of Jiangsu Province On Statistics

With the fast development of China's economy and globalization, it becomes more and more important to translate Chinese local regulations and rules into English due to the increasingly close cooperation between China and other countries. However, because of the late start of English translation of Chinese regulations and rules, problems such as inaccurate translations of terms, inconsistent and non-standard expressions remain to be solved. Therefore, improving the English translation of Chinese regulations and rules plays a significant role in improving China's domestic legal environment.This report is written based on the translation project of Regulations of Jiangsu Province on Statistics whose English translation can help people at home and abroad to understand the knowledge in statistics of Jiangsu province in a complete, systematic, and accurate way. Based on this translation practice and under the guidance of Nida's functional equivalence theory, the author of this report analyzes several important and difficult issues confronted during the translation process such as Chinese-specific words,legal terms, fuzzy words, long and complex sentences; and correspondingly, the author puts forward some solutions to deal with these important and difficult issues with specific examples. For example, the author employs the methods of referring to parallel texts to translate the important and difficult words, adopts the methods of literal translation, addition and omission to handle fuzzy words, and takes the measures of linear translation, adjusting word sequences and translating "de" structures as an adverbial clause of condition to deal with the translation of long sentences. At the end of this report, the author summarizes the limitations of this report and puts forward some recommendations for future reference.
