A Project Report On The C-E Translation Of Regulations Of Jiangsu Province On Development Of Green Buildings

With the initiation and implementation of the national strategy, the Belt and Road Initiative, China's external exchange, as well as the legal activities involved, is becoming increasingly frequent. As part of legislative documents, local laws and regulations are characterized by their formality in style, rigorousness in expression and compactness in structure. The translation quality of these laws and regulations has a direct bearing on the understanding and enforcement of them.This project report is based on the English Translation of Regulations of Jiangsu Province on Development of Green Buildings ( hereinafter referred to as These Regulations ) with Measures of Jiangu Province on Administration of Energy Conservation for Construction as its supplementary text. Under the guidance of Skopos Theory, the author adheres to its skopos rule, coherence rule and fidelity rule in the translation process of These Regulation. This project report summarizes major issues and difficulties, analyses the main reasons behind it, and puts forward corresponding translation skills. At lexical level,"shall /shall not" can be employed to translate “??/??";noun-verb conversion should be paid much attention to in C-E translation because of Chinese-English different preference for nouns and verbs; literal translation,free translation and methods of addition and omission can be adopted when translating fuzzy words. At syntactic level, De-structure sentences can be converted into adverbial clause of condition or time led by "if","where" and "when"; sentences with law-stylized structure can be translated flexibly in accordance with requirements; methods of division and integration can be used in translating long and complicated sentences.
