| The China-ASEAN Research Institute,established by Guangxi University,mainly studies the China-ASEAN relationship and the economic,legal,cultural and ethnic issues of southeast Asian society.The rules and regulations of the institute serve as an important guide for researchers and research teams to understand its policies.With the deepening of the cooperation between the institute and other countries,it is particularly important to translate the rules and regulations of the institute into English.This paper is a translation project report on Compilation of Rules and Regulations of China-ASEAN Research Institute(Part IV and Part V),in which the total number of words is approximately 12000.It mainly contains two parts,namely,Regulations On Social Sciences Research Projects of China-ASEAN Research Institute and Laboratory Regulations.A standardizedEnglish version of the document is conducive to publicizing the policies of the Institute and absorbing the research forces in this field at home and abroad,so as to accelerate the construction of interdisciplinary,cross-regional and cross-national open research platform in the institute.Guided by Peter Newmark’s Text Typology,this report defines the source text as informative text by analyzing the text features.The translation of this kind of text requires that the information embodied in the original text be conveyed faithfully and accurately,and the readability of the target text should also be guaranteed.In addition,this paper will discuss the key points and difficulties of the project from two levels,that is,lexical level and syntactical level.At the lexical level,it mainly involves the translation of technical terms,modal verbs and category words,as well as conversion of word classes,while at the syntactical level,it deals with the translation of subjectless sentences and long sentences.This report sums up the translation methods and techniques applicable to the prescriptive texts on the basis of specific case analysis,so as to provide reference for further translation of similar projects in the future. |
