This article is a translation project report. The material for the translation project comes from the sixth chapter(The Evolution of Language) of “The Tell-tale Brain”, a popular writings in psychology published in 2011.The author, Ramachandran explores why humans, who are "anatomically, neurologically and genetically, physiologically apes," are not "merely" apes. He offers a fascinating explanation of cutting-edge-neurological research that deepens our understanding of the relationship between the perceptions of the mind and the workings of the brain.Chapter 6 of The Tell-tale Brain has a strong connection to neuropsychology. Ramachandran explains two primary sources of language: Broca and Wernicke’s Areas. Broca’s Area is responsible for speech production whereas, Wernicke’s Area is responsible for language comprehension. As we grow older, our ability to learn new languages decreases. This translation report gives analysis and summary to the translation process of chapter six of The Tell-tale Brain. The translator mainly adopts Eugene Nida’s functional equivalence theory, combing with other translation skills in the translation process. This paper mainly analyzes the problems met in the process, the solution, the translation theory and skill used in the process on the basis of the test, and gives specific examples to present the translation process. In the last part of the paper, the translator realizes the complexity of translation and understands a qualified translator must possess the ability to master language as well as culture, besides, ample and systematic translation theories are also necessary.
