| Bertrand Russell said: "There’s nothing feared more than thought." Secondary stage is a critical belief formation period,of which the rational degree has an important impact on junior high school students’ emotional experience and behavioral development. As unrealistic, distorted perception to people themselves, others, surrounding environment and things, irrational beliefs are closely linked to anger, depression, anxiety and other negative emotional experiences,which is also a key factor affecting people’s emotions and behavior. As overall cognitive assessment of individual living conditions for a sustained period of time,life satisfaction has largely impact on individual emotional experience, life goals and behavior pursuit orientation. In order to further improve junior high school students’ life satisfaction, mental health conditions, help them complete their studies successfully and live joyful life, it’s necessary to study the relationship between junior high school students’ irrational beliefs, life satisfaction and coping style.800 junior high school students of Kunming 8 middle school conveniently extracted as subjects was investigated by MIBS(2007), Easy Coping Style Questionnaire(1995), CASLSS(2004) in group questionnaire survey,we investigated the basic situation of junior high school students’ irrational beliefs, life satisfaction and coping styles,furthermore we discussed their relationship and coping styles as intermediary role between irrational beliefs and life satisfaction. Conclusions are as follows:(1) The more irrational beliefs junior high school students hold,the lower life satisfaction they have. Except there was no significant correlation between desire possibility and friendship, family, freedom and academic satisfaction, junior high school students’ all dimensions of irrational beliefs scores have significant negative correlation with dimensions and overall life satisfaction at α = 0.01 level.(2) The more irrational beliefs junior high school students hold, the more negative coping style tend to be, or positive coping style on the contrary.In addition to no significant correlation between desire possibility and positive coping style scores, junior high school students’ irrational belief dimensions and overall scores negatively correlate to positive coping style and coping tendency, positively correlate to negative coping style at α = 0.01 level significantly.(3) Coping style of junior high school students tend to be actively respond,the higher life satisfaction they have, lower on the contrary. Addition to no significant correlations between negative coping style and friendship,freedom satisfaction, dimensions and overall scores of junior high school students’ life satisfaction have significant negative correlations between negative coping style, positive correlations between positive coping style and coping tendency at α=0.01 level.(4) junior high school students’ coping tendency play a partial mediating role in the relationship between irrational belief and life satisfaction, irrational belief can not only affect life satisfaction directly, but also influence life satisfaction indirectly through coping tendency. |
