Today, most international conferences resort to simultaneous interpreting (SI). As the deepening of reform and opening up, China has more opportunity to communicate with other countries and to hold international conferences. Accordingly, the need for simultaneous interpreters is increasing. Meanwhile, it brings challenges for SI from Chinese into English (C to E). So the purpose of my thesis is to discuss three main C-E SI strategies which could help simultaneous interpreters cope with the challenges and improve the quality of C-E SI that affects not only the conference but also the image of the interpreter. Besides, I also discuss the training methods of C-E SI. My thesis probes into the subject by analyzing specific examples on the basis of the theory.The theory of my thesis comes from Gile’s SI Effort Model. Gile, the expert of interpretation and translation in the world, has proposed a SI Effort Model which explains the difficulties the interpreters encounter in SI. Moreover, Gile illustrates reasons causing difficulties and develops SI strategies. My thesis only expounds three of them, namely, Syntactic linearity, Anticipation, Omission. As for examples, the author selects a speech given by President Hu Jintao at Yale University in2006. By analyzing SI of the speech, the thesis offers a discussion that what kind of strategy has been used and whether it is used appropriately. Then the author makes a tentative study of self-training methods of SI. At last, the thesis points out that the three strategies are effective and it is necessary to apply them to the practice of C-E SI.
