Learning motivation is regarded as one of the most important factors in the process of foreign language learning as it can help cultivate learners’ interests, overcome learning barriers, strengthen self-confidence and sense of achievements. With the improvement of international status of Chinese language, more and more foreigners come to China to learn Chinese. Therefore, International students’ Chinese learning motivation has been widely concerned by educators and researchers from all over the world.We do more related research on different ages of students’ English learning motivation, and need more research relevant to motivation of professional foreign students learning Chinese. Especially for the inland cities like Taiyuan Shanxi province, it has less International students. This thesis has investigated 128 Chinese learners’ from several colleges and English schools in Taiyuan. It can be divided into four chapters.The first chapter mainly introduces the explanation of learning motivation in domestic and foreign researchers. It is divided into two groups: intrinsic motivation and extrinsic motivation; integrative motivation and instrumental motivation. The main aspects of the questionnaire related to learners’ basic information, motivation and expectation of the teaching strategies.The second chapter analyzes the statistical analysis by SPSS. Researcher discuses the factors influencing Chinese learning motivation:1.purpose of Chinese learning; 2.emotional factors in Chinese learning process 3.external factors in Chinese learning process; 4. learning expectations.Chapter three concentrates on the differences in motivation factors. Through the statistical analysis by SPSS, Chinese learners’ family background, the differences of gender, occupation and the level of Chinese have produced different effects on learners’ motivation. Among them, gender difference reflects obviously in four elements of Chinese learning. Learners with different occupations, family background and levels reflect greater differences in the purpose of Chinese learning. However different learners’level will have different expectations in the future Chinese learning.According to the Taiyuan’s Chinese learning status, the forth chapter discuss the strategies in International students. Above are three strategies: 1.Combine learners’internal and external motivation; 2.Improve teachers’ personalities and teaching attitudes; 3.Enhance the teaching skills in Chinese traditional culture.Study found that instrumental motivation is the main motivation of Chinese Learners in Taiyuan and the intrinsic motivation performs significantly. Learners generally have larger interest not only in Chinese itself, but also in Chinese traditional culture, movies and TV shows. These internal factors directly affect the learner’s enthusiasm and initiative. Therefore, according to the Chinese learning motivation and features of Taiyuan International students, researcher puts forward appropriate methods and effective measures about stimulating International students’ Chinese learning motivation on the teachers and curriculums, and points out some countermeasures, aiming to effectively stimulate the International students’ Chinese learning motivation. Researcher wants to have some reference significance in improving their quality of Chinese teaching, in order to truly improve Chinese teaching.
