Li Bihua is a famous and talented woman writer in Hong Kong. When she wasyoung, she served as a primary school teacher, and later became a character columnistand scriptwriter of films and televisions. Most of her novels are successfullyrearranged into films which are favored by the audience, and win the internationalscreen award. These achievements are closely related to her novel language. Novelsand other literary styles are art of language. Most writers, who are mature in art andideas, always present their own characteristics in terms of language in their works.After reading her novels, people can see that the language is elegant and dignified,concise and lively and easy to understand. She interprets her own world outlook,social outlook, outlook on life, aesthetics and concept of love through the language.Therefore, the language features of Li Bihua’s novels should be paid more attention.This paper contains five parts for studying the language features of Li Bihua’snovels. Chapter One summarizes the basis, the research situation and levels both athome and abroad, creative point, purpose and methods of the research. Chapter Two,discusses the elegance and nationalization of her novels’ language from the view ofselected language materials by separately describing the expression, analyzing theeffect of expression, and discovering the reason of such expression. Chapter Threeanalyze the language features, mainly the metaphor from the point of rhetoric methods.In her novels, metaphor is not only adopted frequently, metaphorical objects andmodifiers are also shown with the features of popularization, quirkiness, classics,passiveness and accuracy. The unique metaphor makes people know clearly thecomplicated relations among the things and moves into the deep of life and humanity.Chapter Four analyzes the tendency to films in order to explain the reason why hernovels are easy to be rearranged into films from the aspects of the environment ofcommunication, the objects of communication, the goals of communication, thecontent of communication and the literacy of authors. The successful transformationfrom word language to audio-visual language own to the vivid action and the sense ofpictures of the novel language. Li Bihua accommodates to the popular culture andtimes spirit trend and highlights the audiovisual feature. She writes the new fashion byusing emotional language, which reflects her concern about the living condition. Chapter Five concludes the paper, emphasizes the key points and problems and finallypoints out the further direction of the research.
