This is a translation report on legal English text. There are a large number of attributive clauses in these legal texts. On one hand, the usage of attributive clauses embodies and enhances the preciseness of legal language. On the other hand, attributive clauses make sentences complicated, which makes it difficult for the translator to do the translation. In this report, the author mainly focuses on the methods used to translate attributive clauses in The Historic Foundations of The Law Relating to Trade-Marks. At first, the author makes a brief introduction of the categories and features of attributive clauses and summarizes some translation methods. Then, the author explores the translation methods in translating attributive clauses in The Historic Foundations of The Law Relating to Trade-Marks. These translation methods include fronting, division, convergence and conversion. At last, the author summarizes the lesson learned in the translation process and problems that need to be solved.
