The Study Of Teaching Chinese Characters To Oversea Students Of Chinese Origin

Recently, with the increasing number of oversea students of Chinese origin, scholars have started focusing on the study of teaching this group. This thesis emphasizes the study of teaching Chinese Characters to oversea students of Chinese origin.Their reading and writing skills are much worse than their listening and speaking skills. As to this characteristic, I designed an teaching experiment which allows students to use both Chinese Pinyin and Characters in the writing exercise to check whether this kind of exercise can improve their Chinese Characters recognizing and writing.The thesis consists of six chapters:Chapter â… :Introduction. It gives us a general overview of the whole study including the research background and reason, the process, value and methods of this research.Chapter â…¡:Literature Review. This chapter gives an overview of the theory and related research findings of teaching Chinese to oversea students of Chinese origin.Chapter â…¢:Research on characteristics of oversea students of Chinese origin. It mainly talks about research reasons, research methods, research objects and results.Chapter â…£:Design and Implementation of Teaching Experiment. This part includes the objectives and how to carry out the experiment. Chapter â…¤:Result and Analysis of Teaching Experiment. In this chapter we mainly analyze the results through SPSS, observation and interviews.Chapter â…¥:Conclusion. This chapter makes a summarization which is allowing students to use both Chinese Pinyin and Characters in the writing exercise can improve their Chinese Characters recognizing and writing effectively. It also points out some shortcomings of this study. Some recommendations are also made for further study.
