The thesis summarizes the differences between the two types of short-term adverbs in Chinese which are the "LI KE" Category and "GAN JIN" Category from the semantic, grammatical and pragmatic aspects. It conducts a comprehensive investigation on the errors about these short-term adverbs when the learners use them. The investigation is based on the corpus constructed by Beijing Language University and the survey among the Chinese learners from Grade 9 to 12 of Shanghai High School International Division, and the thinking about the practical teaching of these short-term adverbs is concluded after the whole investigation.The thesis analyzes and summarizes the main differences between the " LI KE" Category and "GAN JIN" Category, which involves:(1) "LI KE" Category emphasizes the objective requirements for time are urgent, and "GAN JIN" Category focuses on the subjective feeling; (2) "LI KE" Category can be used before the subjects as a sentence-initial adverbials, and "GAN JIN" Category could be used together with the mark of continuous tense "ZHENG"; (3) "LI KE" Category can be used to decorate the volitional verbs and the involuntary verbs, and used in the passive sentences as well, but "GAN JIN" Category can be only used to decorate the volitional verbs.After the investigation, we could find the errors when the Chinese learners used the two types of short-term adverbs are:(1) the confusion of the sematic functions of the two types of short-term adverbs; (2) the confusion of the syntactic structure of the two types of short-term adverbs; (3) the confusion of the individual word among the two types of short-term adverbs; (4) the confusion of spoken and written language.This thesis consists of five segments.Chapter One briefly introduces the reasons and significance of research on short-term adverbs and the related errors, the object of research, methods and steps, and the summary of the past research on the short-term adverbs.Chapter Two discriminates the "LI KE Category" and "GAN JIN Category" short-term adverbs on the semantic, grammatical and pragmatic aspects.Chapter Three utilizes the results of searching on the samples from the corpus constructed by Beijing Language University, and analyses the consequence of the survey on the learners from Shanghai High School International Division about the errors related to these short-term adverbs. Then it categorizes these errors and gives the explanation about the errors.Chapter Four makes the reflection about these short-term adverbs in practical teaching on the basis of the previous analyses.The epilogue makes an overview of all the points in the thesis.
