With the increasing number of students coming from foreign countries attending primary schools in Shanghai, teaching Chinese as a second language for children should meet their mental level, and also exploring appropriate teaching methods. This study is based on teaching Chinese as a second language (TCSL) for first grade students in a classroom setting. The object of this study is to experiment the application of Situational Teaching Methodology (STM) in the oral practice of Chinese in the elementary level. To avoid disturbing the student learning, the control experiment is only performed in one teaching unit. The study introduces experimental approach to use two classes from the same grade, the Control Group and Experimentation Group. The independent variable is whether one group will adopt the above mentioned methodology, while the induced variable is set as students’ achievements, and then we conduct statistical analysis towards independent sample T.Based on the application of basic theory, this study mainly uses qualitative research, while combined with quantitative research. We can observe whether this approach arouses students’ greater interest and whether better grades are achieved afterward. Besides, this study also applies a behavior study in two turns. The behavior study focused on the teaching process, analysis, reflection, improving the design of STM and details of implementation. Thus, the study explores the impact of specific factors in the situational teaching effectiveness. We find that in the children’s oral TCSL class, teachers need to pay attention to use various types of situations and switch them interchangeably. Applying two or three types in one procedure would not distract children’s attention. When the situational teaching teacher creates a situation combined with students’ own connection and recalling situations, it can effectively enhance students’ emotional experience, and also help the students comprehend the learning materials of specific functions and usage.
