Interpreting Report Of Andrew Solomon’s Speech “What Is Love”

As time goes by, China has played a more and more important role in the world. Its participation in various international conferences becomes more and more frequent. Consecutive interpreting is one interpreting form which is widely used during a meeting. It is also used in public speech, business negotiation, and so on.TED, one of the highest level meetings, is concentrating on world communication and ideas spreading. Choosing the public speech in TED as an interpreting practice, the author can not only help spread those ideas but also broaden his eyesight and enrich his knowledge.The report mainly includes four parts: introduction, task description, process description, case analysis and summary & conclusion. The first part of the task description describes the origin and the reason of interpreting the project. The second part presents the draft records as well as the modification later on. The third part is mainly about the theory and methods used on the cases. The last part shows the summary, conclusion, as well as the insights.Derived from the study on interpreting and translation of international conference, French school of interpreting theory insists that the aim of interpreting is to pass meanings. Under the guidance of the interpretative theory, the author hope he can use several interpreting strategies and interpreting methods to improve his interpreting ability.
