Basics of Body Building is a book about physical activity nearly 30,000 words. The book links together 10 chapters, and I select the first chapter, the second chapter, chapter five and chapter seven of Basics of Body Building which are probably the most important parts of the entire book as translation materials for this paper. I had selected translation materials from lots of stuff since May 20,2014. Finally, I chose this book as my translation materials through all kinds of comparisons and analyses. After that, I translated the article in two months by visiting the web sites and access to relevant information. Then, my thesis supervisor sat up far into the night working on my translated article with care. Therefore, I finished my final paper in March 3,2015.Basics of Body Building belongs to operative text, so the translation is geared to non-literary translation. While non-literary translation has several features that are known to all, such as, functional requirement, concise language and terse style. It will not appear too much words emphasizing on emotional as well as long sentences. Thus it determines that I should select the appropriate translation criterion to present the original message to readers as objective as possible with the guidance of skopos theory during translation. Meanwhile language and form should meet the demand of audience readers as far as possible, and only in this way can it achieve accuracy and objectivity. Therefore, I focused on intratextual coherence of the translated version meanwhile I paid more attention on the target readers. My translation strategies aim at reducing the exoticism of the target text, providing a kind of natural and fluent version for the target readers. It is similar to Peter Newmark’s translation theory—communicative translation, which attempts to produce on its readers an effect as close as possible to that obtained on the readers of the original.Based on the translation standard “Faithfulness, Expressiveness and Elegance”, I mainly used inversion method, free translation, complementary translation, omission, and shifting method as my principal tools. I had consulted professionals before I got into my stride, such as, the meaning of technical terms “POT”(Progressive Overload Training). Then I used complementary translation method to explain the meaning in the translated version. I also translated some words and sentences with national feature by free translation method. In the whole process, I deeply realize the art of translation. As an interdiscipline subject, translation covers a wide field, so I have to broad my horizon and knowledge from all various disciplines from now on. By so doing day by day, our translational level will be greatly raised.
