The source text of the report(Chapter 10-12) is excerpted from Basics of Translation Studies by Cay Dollerup who is a famous translation scholar internationally and has published a large number of works on translation. Basics of Translation Studies discusses the major problems in the field of translation, such as translation nature, views and strategies. The three chapters excerpted makes a detailed discussion on the source text, target text and translation quality assessment. In each chapter, Cay Dollerup provides the basic information of translation for beginners and lists the main translation views. He then makes comments on them and puts forwards his own views.Under the guidance of Peter Newmark’s “text typology” and Eugene A. Nada’s “functional equivalence”, the source text is analyzed in detail. And in order to render the meaning of the source text fully and truly to target readers, various strategies, such as following the original syntactic order, reinventing sentence structures and semantic extension, are applied to solve problems on terminologies and long sentences during the translation. The translation activity not only improves the author’s ability, but also deepens her understandings on translation. More importantly, it makes the author clearly realize the importance of mastering terms and the necessity to know relevant background information on special profession. So, the author still should expand knowledge on special profession and learn relevant terms constantly.
