A Report On The Translation Of Basics Of Qualitative Research

This is a report of practice on English-Chinese translation,which is on the basis of translation of Chapter I and II of Basics of Qualitative Research(Edition IV)written by Juliet Corbin.This book is about the implementation research basis and grounded theory research basis,and its author combines the Chicago interactionism and pragmatism.It presents a kind of very useful methodology and research procedure for researchers,and is very useful for the learning of qualitative research,especially for the analysis of qualitative materials.The target language for the translation is Chinese,with the purpose to provide scholars with references to education grounded theory research.Therefore,the target readers must be taken into considerations,under the guidance of Newmark's typology it is particularly important to use correct terms in the translations.I am so honored to take part in the English-Chinese translation project,and write this dissertation based on my translation practice.I summarize and conclude the difficulties encountered in the translation practice,explore solutions,and hope to be helpful to the future translation of academic works.This practice report consists of four parts.Chapter I is an introduction to the translation task,including three parts: the client,entrusted task and client requirements.In Chapter II,Translation task process description,I present three stages of translation: the preparation before translation,the control during the translation,and the proofreading after the translation.The case analysis in Chapter III is the key part,and I analyze the translation at three levels,namely,the word level,the sentence level and the passage level through the approaches of induction,collation and analysis.I choose instances in translation practices for explanation and analysis,and put forward related solutions.In Chapter IV,reflection and summary,I summarize the weaknesses in this translation,which triggers the discussion to translator qualities.I hope that the writing of this report will benefit the translation of academic works and research into academic texts.
