Time Served、coping Style、social Support And Prisoners’ Personality

Based on previous studies, present study investigate the personality, coping and social support of felons in West prison, explore the relationship between criminals personality and their social support and coping style. 147 criminals as Subjects, tested by Criminal Personality Test, Coping Style Questionnaire, Self-made Social Support Questionnaire.Criminal personality, coping style and social support were assessed,and then we analyzed the relationship between the criminal personality, coping style, and social support, To explain the objective and subjective factors affecting criminal personality, provide psychological basis for classification of criminals transformation and crime prevention.In this study, subjects were significantly different with the national norm in sympathy,subordinate and criminal thinking three dimensions. The personality of Criminals spent different time in prison were significantly different from each other in extraversion,compassion, vigilance, anxiety, violent tendencies five dimensions.The coping style of Criminals are problem solving, seeking, avoidance and so on.Blame is the most unusual coping style.Social support of prisoners can be defined as emotional support, transformation support,information support, communication support four dimensions, the social support of different types of crime has no difference,that of criminals passed different time in the dimensions of emotional support and communication support have a significant difference.The multiple dimensions of coping styles related with criminal personality, such as remorse, has very significant correlation to volatility, impulsivity, low self-esteem, anxiety,.Fantasy and impulse, anxiety related significantly. Retreat and smart, violent tendencies significant negative correlation, was significantly associated with the subordinate,association with low self-esteem is very significant. Rationalization to impulse related significantly, and relationship to volatility, low self-esteem, anxiety is very significant.Information support and violent tendencies,criminal thinking have a significant negative correlation, to sympathy is very significant correlation. Communication support and subordinate,volatility have a significant negative correlation.The criminal personality formation is due to the interaction of inside and outside cases,the formation of joint action. from the results of this study, the criminal personality and coping style, social support have a close relationship. Thus providing the necessary socialsupport for offenders, educate to use of beneficial coping style, have a positive role in prevention formation of bad criminal personalities.
