Tommy and the Wishing-stone is a book of fairy tales which is suitable for children to read. In this awesome work, Peter rabbit, Reddy Fox, and Jerry muskrat are endowed with different characters---optimistic, outgoing, naughty or smart, keeping making troubles with them but always shaking off them with the help of their partners. They go through interesting, breathtaking adventures and broaden their horizon as well as being enlightened by various ideas. This book has twelve chapters and the language is English. It is not quite difficult to understand the whole work because there are only a few long and complicated sentences. The style of language used is informal. The author has been entrusted to the translation of the whole book under the guidance of Skopos Theory to highlight the features of children’s literature.This report, based on the translation of the first five chapters of the work, introduces the whole translating process with emphasis on analysis and discussion of the typical cases of translation and problems the translator ran into.The significance of the translation lies in working out the translation principles and specific strategies for children literature. My competence and knowledge of translation have been really improved by the practice and the report. And I’m quite clear now what my gap is in translation and what I should work hard on if I’m to become a successful translator in the future.There are six parts in the report. Part one introduces the task and features of the translation and the requests of the client. Part two elaborates on the process of translation:pre-translation, during translation and post-translation. Part three is focused on analysis and strategies of translation cases, sorting out the problems, difficulties and confusions and then adopting different strategies and skills of translation accordingly. Part four is the summary, reflecting on the translation practice and what should be expected of myself as a translator. Then the report is followed by the bibliography and appendices, including the original text of English as well as its translation in Chinese.
