Abstract/Summary:
The selected text of this translation practice recommended by my supervisor is Iqbal written by Francesco D’Adamo,a famous Italian writer.Based on the real life story of a Pakistani boy, this book tells the story of how Iqbal fought and how to joined the Pakistan labor liberation front organization to fight for the rights of enslaved children all over the world.Iqbal belongs to documentary literature, but has the characteristics of children’s literature. At the same time, the text is full of description and dialogue of life scenes, which is very realistic. The narrator of the story is the child labor partner of Iqbal, and the narrative perspective and style reflect distinct characteristics of children’s literature. The translation of this kind of text is difficult, which is undoubtedly a beneficial practice.Guided by the Skopos theory of translation put forward by Hans Vermeer,a German translator, and based on the characteristics of documentary literature and children’s literature, the author attempts to translate Iqbal with various translation techniques,so as to make more children take an interest in it.This report first introduces the source of the project, the significance of the project and the structure of the report, then analyzes the source language author, the source language style, and briefs the referred parallel text.Under the guidance of the three principles of Skopos theory, namely skopos principle, coherence principle and faithfulness principle, the author makes a careful analysis of the translation cases from three levels: vocabulary, sentence and discourse.Through this practice, the author has a better understanding of the characteristics of documentary children’s literature,a deeper understanding of theory and a better understanding of translation practice. It ishoped that this report can provide some insight into the translation studies of similar texts.
