A Report On The Translation Of The Patent Systems And Methods For Precision Plasma Processing

This report is based on the English-Chinese translation of the patent System and Methods for Precision Plasma Processing. By summarizing project procedures and analyzing translation cases, the report focuses on the following three aspects: how to increase the translation speed and accuracy through sufficient preparation, how to develop translation strategy on the basis of target text and how to enhance the readability and quality of the translation through appropriate conversion skills.Firstly, the report summarizes the basic information of the project and introduces the project team’s specific assignments. Secondly, it generalizes the preparation work and translation procedures. Thirdly, it analyzes the translation cases. From the perspective of the differences between the language characteristics of scientific English and scientific Chinese, it discusses the specific application of three translation skills, i.e. part-of-speech conversion, passive/active-voice conversion and word-order conversion, through 11 specific cases. Lastly, it summarizes the problem and deficiency of this project.As the report reveals, in a patent translation project, the team should make full preparations through analyzing target text, formulating translation strategies, designing translation procedure and allocating assignments properly. Then, during translation, translators need to give full consideration to the audience and employ appropriate conversion skills to enhance readability. Meanwhile, translators are required to attach importance to teamwork and maintain good communication with other members to ensure the accuracy of both the language and the technical content. It is expected that this report could provide some examples and reference for the study on patent document translation.
