Report On The Chinese-English Translation Of Patent On Data Processing

Patent is an invention protected by laws and regulations.It refers to a patent right which the invention applied for a patent application to the state examination and approval organ is granted to the patent applicant within the prescribed period of time after passing the examination according to law,and is an important part of the intellectual property system.In recent years,a growing number of domestic companies have been applying for international patents to seek a wider range of intellectual property protection.Hence,there is increasing demand for patent translation.A patent on corpora processing in the field of machine translation is selected in the present report for translation,aiming to solve the problem of the low efficiency of bilingual alignment corpora processing method in the prior art and attempting to promote the development of Computer Linguistics and Machine Translation to a certain extent.Meanwhile,the author takes Vermeer's Skopos Theory as the theoretical basis to analyze the problems encountered in the translation of the patent,and writes this practice report in combination with the author's patent translation internship in RWS Group Beijing RWS Science & Technology Information Consultancy Co.,Ltd.(BJRWS).This report is divided into five parts and elaborates on the task background of the translation practice,the purpose and significance thereof,the description of the translation task and process,the case analysis and the conclusion.Under the guidance of three principles of the Skopos Theory,namely,skopos rule,coherence rule and fidelity rule,the author analyzes the specific cases respectively from the lexical,syntactic and discoursal aspects in the part of case analysis.Through this translation practice,the author comes to realize that during the translation process of patent documents,the function and purpose of the source text and translation should be taken into consideration,and the translator should adjust the translation strategies in time and adopt different translation methods with regard to different contents.While ensuring that the original information is accurately conveyed,it is also necessary to guarantee the fluency and readability of the translation,so as to facilitate the understanding and acceptance of the target readers.The author hopes that this report can provide certain reference for patent translation and promote further development of researches in the field of data processing and other relative areas at home.
