With the flourishing economy in China, it is calling higher demands in labor market for secondary vocational school graduates, which makes the growing number of them continue their education in Higher Vocational College, where General English Curriculum is a compulsory one. However, their English are generally not as good as most of their classmates, the high school graduates whose English are much more systematically learned before due to different school management. Therefore, with the two kinds of graduates learning English together, graduates from secondary vocational school find themselves self-abased, lacking self-confidence and unable to keep up with their classmates in English learning day by day. The best way to solve these problems is to put an effective connection in General English Curriculum between secondary and higher vocational education.In this context, this thesis aims to explore concrete measures in connecting General English Curriculum between secondary and higher vocational education, based on a field survey among teachers and freshmen in both kinds of colleges and a detailed contrast between the English Curriculum Standards of the two. There are four parts of this paper. The first part is introductory, including the background and significance of this topic, definitions of some relevant concepts, literature review, research purpose, research methods and so on. The second part is the field survey and detailed contrast motioned before, from the aspects of curriculum objectives, curriculum content, curriculum implementation and course evaluation. The third part is the problems currently existed in the effective connection in General English Curriculum between secondary and higher vocational education. The last part is the concrete measures to solve these problems such as unified English Curriculum Standards of the two education stages being made; appropriate teaching materials being compiled by professors with the help of enterprises; cohesion in curriculum implementation and multivariate evaluation between the two.All these are done to help secondary vocational school graduates will do better in their English learning in higher vocational colleges.
